Role Playing for Beginners! ;D

Role Playing for Beginners! ;D
Hullo, and welcome to Lyn's school of beginner role players!
I'm going to teach you the basics of role playing so you can know how to join in on the fun here at Lumerziii!
Here are a few things that a good to remember when role playing;
1. Scenery
2. Action
3. Description
4. Response
We'll study scenery first! ^_^
Sometimes when role playing we tend to forget scenery. As in what a place looks like! We don't take the time to describe our surroundings.
Wrong: I walked into the dark room and turned on the light, then went over and sat on a chair near the wall.
Right: I walked into a dark room, as soon I turned on the light I could see my surroundings. The walls were painted lavender and there were papers scattered all over the floor. I also noticed that there was a bed with a canopy over it on the right hand side of the room. The floors were polished pine. There was also a window on the left hand side of the room with curtains tightly locking light out.
Being descriptive of surroundings isn't everything, but it helps to give the reader a good image of where you are in their head. ;D
Next, we'll study action! Sometimes we tend to make our characters speak but they never move! Well this is a problem, we'd like to see some action!
Wrong: "Hullo there! How are you today?" Jane asked.
Right: Jane crossed her legs and placed her hands gently on her lap, "Hullo, there! How are you today?" She asked tilting her head to the side just a little in question.
The first one is wrong because Jane seems to be sitting like a statue, or how would we know? There is nothing to read on it!
In the second she is moving, it states that she's sitting cross legged and speaking to you, then she tilts her head to the side a bit. Make sure to put some action in your posts when role playing. It also gives the reader a good idea of how your character looks!
Description is our next section of study!
What we tend to forget is how our characters look! Are they beautiful? Handsome? Do they have long flowing hair or is it short and choppy? Do they have blue eyes or green eyes?
This is even something I often forget to describe. And in role playing we need to introduce our characters! It's best to show what they look like, either by describing or through picture.
First thing is first, we need to remember that people would like to know how our characters look. Hair color, eye color, skin tone, body shape and how tall they are! Do they wear glasses? Braces? It's endless really! Some things we can leave out but it's good to be descriptive. I'm not doing the right wrong bit again, I think I've said enough in this section.
Also remember that here at Lumerziii I'm not looking for literacy. It's not that important. I'm trying to support "Fun" here and that's what we are here for! FUN! So make sure when you are role playing that you have fun as well!
And don't forget...if a character is talking to you it's good to respond! Almost forgot that part! D8 That's simple enough!
